I am a software developer turned systems engineer who reads voraciously.

I was over 30 before I started reading science fiction and fantasy because I was force-fed Bradbury's Dandelion Wine during high school and I thought "If this is science fiction, I want nothing to do with it."

I was over 40 before I found out that there are such things as science fiction conventions.
I went to my first con in November of 1999 and almost didn't go back. "Why?", you ask. Let me explain.
The person who talked me into going told me not to worry about my 3 year old son, "They have babysitting," he said. I had to go to babysitting and take him out to change him, to feed him, etc. I saw next to nothing of the con. Next year, he asked me if I was going to go again, so I explained why not. He suggested getting a relative to watch the kidlet for the weekend. I found one willing to do so and went to the con. After I got my badge, my "friend" dragged me over to the art show and told the person running it, "I have a volunteer for you." The rest, as they say, is history - I have now been running the WindyCon art show for 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 years.

I frequently act as an agent taking art to conventions for some of my friends.

I have driven through TN multiple times, but have never stopped so not counting it.
I have had layovers in UT and LA, but never left the airport, so not counting those, either.
